Aeration services from Atlanta’s lawn care experts

Your lawn is a living organism that requires care and attention. As time passes, the soil beneath your grass can become compacted, making it difficult for air, water, and nutrients to reach the roots. This can lead to a lack of oxygen and nutrient deficiency, resulting in a weak and unhealthy lawn. One way to improve the health of your lawn is through aeration! Aeration is a process that helps to break up compacted soil, allowing air, water, and nutrients to penetrate the root zone.

Signs your lawn may need aeration

Here are some of the common reasons why Atlanta lawns can benefit from aeration:

  • Foot traffic
If you regularly walk, play, or have pets on your lawn, it is likely that the soil beneath the grass has become compacted.
  • Compacted soil
It feels hard and dense, and you may notice that water tends to puddle on the surface rather than soak into the ground.
  • Poor drainage
If you notice that water seems to sit on the surface of your lawn for extended periods, it could indicate that the soil is compacted and needs liquid aeration.
  • Thatch buildup
Thatch is a layer of dead grass, roots, and other organic material accumulating on the soil's surface.  If you notice any of these signs, it may be time to consider aeration services for your lawn.

Liquid aeration services

Liquid aeration services can be a game-changer for warm-season grasses such as Bermuda, Zoysia, and Centipede grass. They improve soil structure, water drainage, nutrient absorption, and the overall health of the lawn!

It is a once-a-year service that uses specific bio-stimulants and oxidizing materials to create small cracks in the soil, which allows for better root growth. With this method, water can penetrate deeper into the soil and bring nutrients that plants were unable to reach previously. The best part is that liquid aeration can be done at any time during the growing season.

Unlike traditional mechanical aeration, this method is simple and efficient and does not require heavy machinery or digging.

Core aeration & overseeding

Core aeration and overseeding are ideal for cool-season fescue lawns because they help them recover from summer stresses, improve seed germination, reduce soil compaction, improve grass rooting, and assist with thatch breakdown.

Core aeration and overseeding are recommended once a year. Our lawn care company finds the best time to perform core aeration is late summer or early fall, giving young grass a few months to become established before the temperatures drop. Using a machine, we’ll remove small plugs of grass from the soil to widen the space between grass blades, allowing light, air, and water to reach the roots. This will also loosen topsoil, helping new roots develop and reducing thatch.

Seeding your fescue lawn after core aeration is essential for new grass growth and repairing areas exposed to too much foot traffic, heat stress, and other conditions. Our lawn care experts spread high-quality grass seed over existing turf to fill in bare spots, enhance the lawn’s color, and promote a uniform appearance.

Pairing core aeration with overseeding maximizes your lawn’s growth potential, ensuring it stays healthy and beautiful year-round.

Frequently Asked Questions

Aeration FAQs

Is there a warranty for aeration?

No, the service is reliant on the property owners watering their lawns. We'll make sure you know what to do to ensure the best results!

What happens if I don't aerate my lawn?

Over time, your lawn can become weak, prone to weeds and disease, and become harder to care for. Aeration is key, but watering, fertilizing, mowing, and insect control are also vital.

Can I aerate my lawn myself?

You may be able to rent an aerator and perform the service yourself. Keep in mind, that it may not be the best method for your lawn.
